
Orangewomen Ranked 13th in IWLCA Preseason Poll

Syracuse received 14 votes and a total of 109 points.
Defending national champion Princeton is ranked No. 1 with 296 total points. Maryland (270 points) , Virginia (268 points), Duke (260 points) and Loyola (229 points) rounded out the top five. Georgetown, the 2003 BIG EAST Champion, came in at No. 6 (221 points). The Hoyas were followed by Dartmouth (207 points), James Madison (174 points), Ohio State (157 points), and Penn State (138 points). North Carolina is ranked 11th (135 points) with Boston University (121 points), Syracuse, Stanford (99 points) and Cornell (89 points) making up the top 15.
The Orangewomen will play five teams ranked in the top 10 in the poll this season. Syracuse will open the 2004 campaign at Virginia on Feb. 28 and return home to square off with Maryland on March 3. SU will also battle Loyola (May 8), Georgetown (March 13) and Dartmouth (April 11). In addition, the Orangewomen’s 2004 schedule features matchups with Cornell (April 27) and Notre Dame (May 1), which claimed 17th in the rankings.
The IWLCA’s preseason rankings are based on the votes of 20 Division I women’s lacrosse coaches from around the nation.
