SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orangewomen (4-2, 1-1) will play the first of two games versus New York opponents this season when Colgate (6-3, 2-0) makes the short drive up Interstate 81 to face off with Syracuse on March 30 at the Carrier Dome. SU is riding a three-game winning streak and is coming off its two most impressive goal-scoring performances of the season, defeating California (17-9) on March 23 and BIG EAST rival Connecticut (16-13) on March 27. Against the Huskies, senior Leigh-Ann Zimmer became the Orangewomen’s all-time points leader with two goals and two assists in the triumph. She now has 186 career points, passing Katrina Hable who previously held the school record with 182 points from 1998-2001. Senior Danielle Lillis moved up two positions on SU’s career goals ledger with her performance against the Huskies. Lillis tied her personal-best with four goals in the match, equaling her scoring output against Virginia in the 2003 season-opener. Lillis passed Erica Hofmann and Karen Healy and now ranks eighth all-time at Syracuse with 54 career goals. She is four goals behind Kim Wayne for seventh on the list. Lillis also passed Healy for eighth on the career points chart. She now has 63 in her career and ranks third on the team with 13 goals and 14 points this season. Four days after tying her career-high with two goals and setting a personal-best with three points against California, sophomore Meghan O'Connell bettered her performance with three goals against the Huskies. She also contributed two ground balls and a draw control. O’Connell is fourth on the team with seven goals, already surpassing her 2003 total of four goals in 11 games. Colgate is 6-3 overall with a 2-0 mark in Patriot League competition. The Raiders' defense has allowed just 57 goals in their nine games, a 6.78 goals against average. On offense Colgate has tallied 104 goals (11.56 gpg). Katie McVeigh is the squad’s top offensive performer. She has 33 points on 23 goals and 10 assists. She also leads the team with 25 ground balls. Kelly Winning has tallied 18 goals this season and contributed five assists. Sue Bielamowicz, who has won Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors twice this season, owns an impressive .649 save percentage (113-207) in goal. The Orangewomen and Raiders have met every season since SU’s women’s lacrosse program began in 1998. Syracuse holds a 6-0 advantage in the all-time series. Syracuse is 4-0 at home and owns a 2-0 record in games played in Hamilton. Last season, the Orangewomen recorded 18 goals against the Raiders, the second-highest goal total of the year. Monica Joines put on one of the most spectacular offensive shows in SU history in the contest. Joines tallied eight points on four goals and four assists. The performance is tied for third on the Orangewomen's single-game points list and her four assists is tied for third on that single-game ledger. Zimmer added four goals and Jen Sadler scored the only two goals of her career in the contest. The game will be broadcast live on WJPZ (89.1 FM) and on a tape delay basis in the Syracuse area on Time Warner Channel 26. The men's lacrosse team will be in action against Hobart following the conclusion of the women's game. The men's contest is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
