HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior guard Julie McBride and freshman guard Lauren Kohn were named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team and the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team, respectively, at the league’s annual championship banquet on Friday, March 5.
It is the third all-conference honor for McBride. The 5-4 point guard led the Orangewomen, and ranked fourth in the conference during the regular season, with a 16.7 scoring average. McBride also paced Syracuse with 112 assists and was the team’s second-leading rebounder at 4.2 per game.
McBride, the Orangewomen’s all-time leader in points, assists, three-pointers, free throws and minutes played, is the first SU player to earn All-BIG EAST honors three times in her career since Felsha Legette (1986, 1987, 1989). In addition to this year’s honor, McBride was a third-team choice as a sophomore and a second-team choice last season.
Kohn is Syracuse’s first All-Freshman pick since Shannon Perry in 2000. Kohn finished the regular season ranked second on the team in scoring at 8.2 points per game. She tied for the team lead with 51 three-pointers and leads all conference freshmen, hitting 1.96 triples per game. Kohn was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week twice during the season.
This is the third consecutive season that at least two Orangewomen have been honored by the league. McBride and Jaime James were each named to the third team in 2002, while McBride and Perry were second and third team choices, respectively, last season.
Syracuse, the 12th seed in the BIG EAST Tournament, will face fifth-seeded Boston College in the first round of the conference tourney on Saturday, March 6 at noon in the Hartford Civic Center.
