
2004 "Basket Ball" Another Successful Boeheim Event For Coaches vs. Cancer

SYRACUSE, NY -- The 2004 version of the annual "Basket Ball," a charity event hosted by Jim and Juli Boeheim to benefit the American Cancer Society its Coaches vs. Cancer program, was another successful venture. Held at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, N.Y., the "Basket Ball" featured emcees Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon from ESPN's Pardon the Interruption. Legendary recording group The Four Tops provided musical entertainment for the more than 700 who attended.
Members of the 2003-04 Syracuse University men's basketball team were introduced to the crowd prior to the performance by the Four Tops. The guest list also included Bobby Gonzalez, the men's basketball coach at Manhattan, Villanova coach Jay Wright, and Syracuse associate head coach Bernie Fine. Former Syracuse players Roosevelt Bouie, Dennis Duval and Allen Griffin, the later an administrative assitant on the current coaching staff, were also on hand.
Jim Boeheim, Kornheiser and Wilbon teamed up for a live auction that also raised money for Coaches vs. Cancer. Among the popular auction items was an autographed Carmelo Anthony Denver Nuggets jersey and a basketball with the signatures of the 2003-04 SU men's basketball team.
This year marked the fifth "Basket Ball." Previous celebrations have featured ESPN's Mike Tirico and Linda Cohn and Bob Costas from HBO Sports. The Temptations, David Sanborn and the team of Billy Davis Jr. and Marilyn McCoo, former members of the Fifth Dimension, have provided entertainment.
