
Hernandez Earns ECAC Weekly Honor

Hernandez won the discus throw championship as well as her second consecutive shot put title, taking the Eastern division, and set a school record in the hammer throw at the Penn Relays over the weekend. Hernandez's throw of 59.55 meters in the hammer throw surpassed the school record by 1.75 meters. Her throw earned her second place in the competition, and qualifies her for the NCAA Regional. Hernandez also qualified for the NCAA Regional in the shot put with a winning heave of 14.65 meters. Hernandez's throw of 52.50 meters in the discus is her best of the season and exceeds the qualification standard for the NCAA Regional.
Hernandez' co-recipeint, Maria Garcia of Bucknell, broke her own school record in the hammer throw for the fourth consecutive week with a heave of 60.55 meters, one meter farther than Hernandez' throw. Garcia was the winner of the hammer throw title at the Penn Relays.
Hernandez and Syracuse will compete at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship, April 30-May 2, in Piscataway, N.J. Hernandez has qualified to compete in the league championship in the shot put, discus and hammer throw.
