
Orangewomen Tennis Team Takes Final Road Trip of Regular Season

Last season, the Orangewomen defeated West Virginia, 4-3, at Drumlins Tennis Club in Syracuse. Current Orangewomen Trine Lise Juliussen and Jessica Schlosser participated in the match, and Schlosser earned a victory at No. 3 doulbes with Daniela Kaluskova, 8-2, against Courtney Howell and Catherine Koontz. Juliussen paired with Kristine Bech Holte, but lost, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles against Anna Marie underwood and Jennifer Watkins. In singles, Schlosser lost at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0, to Raynie Theis. At No. 4, Underwood defeated Juliussen, 5-2, after Juliussen retired due to injury. SU did not play Duquesne last season.
Syracuse improved its 2004 record to 6-11 overall and 4-2 in the BIG EAST with a 5-2 win against St. John's on Sunday, April 4, at Drumlins Tennis Club after losing, 5-2, to Boston College on Saturday. Freshman Ashley Lipton was the only Orangewoman to win all four of her matches over the weekend. Lipton paired with classmate Carolina Huignard to win at No. 2 doubles against both Boston College and St. John’s. In singles, Lipton defeated BC’s Allison Ashley, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9, and beat St. John’s Kristina Bothova, 6-0, 6-3, both at No. 2. Lipton and Huignard have won four consecutive doubles matches at No. 2 since Huignard returned from injury.
The Orangewomen and the Mountaineers square off on Friday, April 9, at 10 a.m. SU takes on Duquesne in its final non-conference match of the season on Saturday, April 10, at noon. Both matches will be played at West Virginia.
