JAMAICA, N.Y. – Three members of the Syracuse softball team were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District I First or Second Teams. Junior outfielder Tanya Rose was a first-team choice, while senior second baseman Rachel Park and sophomore shortstop Alexis Switenko made the second team.
Rose, a finance major, is now eligible for selection as a CoSIDA Academic All-American. Named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, she was one of three players to start all 54 games for the Orange in 2004. Rose hit .318 with eight home runs and 23 RBI from the leadoff spot. She set school records with 55 hits, 41 runs scored and 25 walks, and led the team with a .420 on-base percentage. Rose finished the regular season ranked second in the BIG EAST in runs scored, tied for 10th in total bases (90), fifth in walks and 8th in on-base percentage (.420). Rose is a five-time member of the SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and a two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
Park was named to the all-district second team for the second consecutive year. A graduate student in public administration, she earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and history last spring. Park started 52 games for the Orange in 2004. She hit .248 with a career-best 24 runs scored. Park also hit a home run and drove in 14 runs. The last remaining member of SU’s original softball team in 2000, Park finished her career tied for the career lead in hits with 164. She ranks among Syracuse’s all-time top 10 in nearly every offensive category. Park was named to the SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in every semester she was enrolled. She is also a four-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
Switenko, a management major, was a second-team All-BIG EAST pick in 2004. She started all 54 games and led the Orange with a .327 batting average, while setting school records with nine home runs, 40 runs batted in, 94 total bases and a .580 slugging percentage. Switenko also paced the squad with two triples. She ranked among the league’s top 10 in several categories, including home runs, runs batted in, total bases and slugging percentage. Switenko is a three-time member of the SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and was a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2003.
