Syracuse defeated Georgetown, 8-7, in the NCAA quarterfinals at Cornell on May 23, to extend one of the more remarkable streaks in all of college sports for another year. The Orange will make its 22nd consecutive appearance at Championship Weekend, streak that only the North Carolina women's soccer team can match in Division I athletics. On May 29, Syracuse takes on top-ranked Johns Hopkins in the second national semifinal game at approximately 2 p.m. at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The first semifinal pits No. 2 Navy versus No. 6 Princeton at 11:30 a.m. Both games will be televised LIVE by ESPN2.
SU, the No. 4 seed in this year's tournament, has won five-straight games and owns a 13-2 record. The Orange started the NCAA playoffs with a 21-13 win against Albany and squeaked past Georgetown, 8-7. The last time SU lost was April 17 at Rutgers (14-10). The other loss was a 17-5 decision at Johns Hopkins on March 20.
The Blue Jays are 13-1 and have won eight straight games since losing a 9-8 overtime decision to Virginia in Charlottesville back on March 27. In the NCAA Tournament, Hopkins has wins against Providence (15-3) and North Carolina (15-9).
This will mark the 40th meeting between Syracuse and Johns Hopkins since the series began in 1921. The Blue Jays have won four of the last five meetings and control the all-time series, 23-15-1. They have outscored the Orange 36-13 in the last two games, including a 19-8 drubbing in last year's NCAA semifinals and a 17-5 victory this year. This will be the 10th meeting between these two programs in the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse leads it, 5-4.
