CHARLOTTE, NC -- Former SU standout Jason Hart signed a free-agent contract with the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday, July 14. Hart, the career leader in steals (329) at Syracuse and ranked second in career assists (709) with the Orange, had previous NBA experience with the San Antonio Spurs, the Seattle Supersonics and the Milwuakee Bucks.
"We're going to give the ball to Jason and see what he does," said Bobcats Coach Bernie Bickerstaff. "We sat and watched the playoffs and saw that San Antonio used Jason Hart, eventhough they had acquired Charlie Ward. Jason is the guy who played critical minutes for the Spurs. As I told Jason, we're going to put the ball in his hands and let him play and have fun, and we'll see where it goes."
"I'm happy to be here," remarked Hart. "This is my first opportunity to play extended minutes, and I'm really looking forward to the opportunity. It's been a lot of hard work and perseverance. I've been in the NBDL and overseas, but I never lost sight of my dream. I'm just excited about a chance to play and the opportunity the Bobcats have given me and I'm looking forward to taking full advantage of it."
Hart started 131 of 132 games during his four-year SU tenure. He tallied 1,503 points.
Hart was a member of the San Antonio Spurs this past spring and participated in the club's NBA play-off run.
