Volleyball Begins Four-Match Road Stretch

The Orange looks to remain undefeated when it travels to Colgate on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m. SU has started 2004 with an 8-0 record, the best start for the Orange since 1991. Syracuse has won the last nine matches between the two schools to hold a 34-9-2 series advantage against the Raiders.

SU AMONG THE BIG EAST
The Orange is atop the BIG EAST standings as the only undefeated team in the conference. Syracuse leads the BIG EAST with the lowest opponent hitting percentage at .106, and Syracuse has the fourth-best hitting percentage in the conference (.226). The Orange is second in service aces per game with a 2.31 average.
ORANGE LOVES NEW YORK
During the 2004 season, Syracuse is slated to face 11 New York teams. The Orange is currently 4-0 against New York teams. SU has beaten Buffalo, Army, Manhattan and Siena, and has the opportunity to make its record 5-0 should it win against Colgate.
WHAT A YEAR MAKES
SU has captured wins against three teams who defeated the Orange last season, Cleveland State, Manhattan and New Hampshire. The Orange lost to Cleveland State, 3-0, and this year was able to sweep the Vikings. Manhattan earned a 3-2 win in 2003, but Syracuse captured the 3-1 win this season. New Hampshire had defeated SU 3-1 last season, and the opposite was true in 2004.
CONWAY NAMED BIG ORANGE MVP
Junior Kristen Conway was named the MVP of the Big Orange Tournament. Conway had 43 kills on 117 attempts while only playing in three matches for 11 games. Conway recorded two double-doubles in the tournament, against Cleveland State and New Hampshire.
KAUP NAMED TO BIG ORANGE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Freshman Joscie Kaup was named to the Big Orange All-Tournament Team. Kaup anchored SU’s defense with 36 digs while playing in all 14 games for the Orange during the weekend.
