
SU Opens BIG EAST Schedule on Friday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women’s soccer team opens the BIG EAST schedule as it hosts St. John’s Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. SU holds a 5-2-1 record versus the Red Storm and won last year’s meeting 2-0 in Jamaica, N.Y. The Orange will help celebrate Youth Soccer Month during the game.
Senior forward Shana Thomas leads the Orange with two goals and four points. Seniors Sarah Elnicky and Kelly Bailie and sophomore Molly McManus have three points each. The Orange is averaging over 15 shots per game, while holding its opponent to nine shots a contest. The Orange defense has only allowed three goals this season and ranks 21st in the nation with a .553 goals against average.
The Red Storm is 6-0 and ranked No. 5 in the Soccer Buzz Northeast Region Poll. St. John’s is coming off a win versus Wagner, 2-0, at the NYC Mayor’s Cup. The Red Storm is led by Natasha Lee with four goals. Holly Ryder has three goals and two assists on the season.
The Orange hosts No. 2 Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. The game will be televised locally on Time Warner Channel 26 on Monday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m.
