SU to Host BIG EAST First Round Game

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse Orange will host its first round game of the BIG EAST Tournament on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. SU, who finished the regular season as the fourth seed from the BIG EAST Division A, will take on Georgetown, the fifth seed from Division B.
The two teams met earlier this season on Oct. 2, in a game that saw SU win in thrilling fashion. The Orange pulled off a 1-0 double-overtime victory when Nikki Spartano (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored a spectacular goal in the 103rd minute to beat the Hoyas.
SU clinched its postseason berth on Sunday when it beat South Florida, 3-2, behind two Spartano goals. With the Orange win, and a Pittsburgh loss, SU was able to leap up to fourth place in the division earning the right to host its first round game. Georgetown, however found itself traveling for its opening round game after losing to Notre Dame, 6-1, on Sunday.
The winner of Thursday’s game will travel to play the number one seed from Division B, Notre Dame on Alumni Field at Notre Dame on Sunday Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
