SYRACUSE, N.Y., Nov. 14, 2005 – Sophomore Joscie Kaup was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the first time this season after leading SU to a key 3-1 conference victory against Cincinnati on Friday night. She totaled a career-high 33 digs in the win to help earn the Orange the No. 3 seed in this weekend’s BIG EAST Championship.
Kaup topped her previous best of 29 digs, which she recorded at Army on September 4 of last season. She also registered 21 digs in Sunday’s four-game loss to No. 7 Louisville. Her 54 digs for the week was good enough for a 6.75 average, which is the best Kaup has achieved in a two-match span. In the last four matches, she has dug at least 19 balls.
Her 4.08 digs per game average this season is the third-best all-time in a single season and ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. Her 3.96 career average is currently the best in school history, with Rachel Watson in second at 3.83 digs per game.
Kaup is the second player to earn the honor. Senior Kelly Duan has been named to the Honor Roll five times. Kaup was also named the school's Scholar-Athlete of the week earlier today.
The Orange will face No. 6 Pittsburgh on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship. The tournament is being held in Louisville at the Kentucky International Convention Center. The winner of that match will go on to face the winner of No. 2 Louisville and No. 7 Marquette.
