11/17/2005 1:19:34 PM | Men's Basketball, Dome 25
The Syracuse men’s basketball squad has played the only athletic contest on this date in the 25-year history of the Carrier Dome. The Orange, ranked No. 22 at the time, opened the 1998-99 season with a 93-40 win against Colgate.
Junior Ryan Blackwell recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Colgate scored the first basket of the game and held the lead until two free throws by Blackwell and a layup by junior Jason Hart put Syracuse ahead for good with 17:13 remaining in the first half. Freshman Preston Shumpert looked impressive in his collegiate debut, hitting two-of-four three-point shots, grabbing five offensive rebounds and scoring 15 points in 15 minutes of action.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
