SYRACUSE, N.Y., Nov. 2, 2005 – The 2006 women’s lacrosse schedule was released today, and features six games against teams that competed in the 2005 Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The Orange faces defending national champion Northwestern at the Carrier Dome, and also travels to Virginia, which lost to the Wildcats in the title game.
SU opens the 2006 slate on Feb. 18 at a tournament in Princeton, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2005 Championship. On Feb. 27, Dartmouth, which advanced to the semifinals, will come to the Dome. The next game on March 4 takes SU to Charlottesville to face the Cavaliers, which lost to Northwestern 13-10 in last year’s title game.
March 11 features SU’s first BIG EAST contest when defending BIG EAST Champion Georgetown comes to the Carrier Dome. Last season, the Hoyas beat SU 13-6 in the nation’s capital.
On March 31, the Northwestern Wildcats make the trip to the Carrier Dome for the first time since 2003 when SU won 14-3. Interstate rival Colgate also comes to the Dome on April 12. The Raiders lost to Boston University last season in the first round of the tournament.
The 2005 slate features 11 home games, which is the most since SU played 11 at home in 2001. The Orange went 10-5 that season. SU also hosts seven-consecutive home games in the month of March, which will be the longest home stand in the program’s eight year history.
