Syracuse’s 67-65 victory against Princeton on this date in 1994 was SU’s first overtime win since the 1990-91 season. Lucious Jackson gave the Orange a three-point lead, 54-51 when he converted one of two free throws with 39.9 seconds remaining in regulation. Princeton forced overtime with a three-point basket with 30.8 seconds left. SU scored the first nine points in the extra session and held on to record the victory.
In 2003, Manhattan came to the Dome for a re-match after Syracuse defeated the Jaspers in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on its way to the national championship. A close game throughout, the Orange led 54-52 with 9:39 remaining. Syracuse outscored Manhattan, 10-4, during the next five minutes and led the rest of the way, posting a 69-63 victory. Billy Edelin scored 17 points, including 14 points in the second half, to lead SU.
Sherman Douglas scored 23 points to lead the Orange to a 95-69 victory against Canisius in 1988. In 1987, Syracuse defeated St. Bonaventure, 111-68.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
In the first 25 years of the Dome, more than 1,740 events were staged, including collegiate, professional and high school athletics events, University commencement, concerts, a circus, and community events. These activities are chronicled in the more than 100 photographs that are currently in the concourse of the Dome.
