The Syracuse men’s basketball team has played in the Carrier Dome four times during the past 25 years. The Orange has a perfect 4-0 record in those contests.
In 2004, Syracuse defeated Cornell, 82-69 despite the fact that the Big Red set a Carrier Dome record with 15 three-point baskets. With only a halftime advantage of one, 36-35, SU used a 9-2 run in the opening 5:32 of the second half, highlighted by three dunks from Hakim Warrick, to pull away from the Big Red. Warrick finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.
Warrick was also a key factor in SU’s 74-61 win against Siena on this date in 2003. Syracuse led by one, 20-19, with 9:01 remaining in the first half. From that point the Orange outscored Siena, 22-8, for the remainder of the half and maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game. Four of the five starters reached double figures in scoring. Warrick finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
In 2001, Preston Shumpert became Syracuse’s all-time leader in career three-point field goals in SU’s 80-68 win against South Florida. Shumpert finished his career with 134 three-pointers in 134 games. Gerry McNamara broke the career record last season. McNamara has 323 baskets from behind the arc in 108 games.
Syracuse defeated Fairfield, 93-74, on this date in 1986. Greg Monroe led the Orange with 19 points.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
