McNamara Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Senior guard Gerry McNamara (Scranton, Pa.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the week of Nov. 27 – Dec. 3. McNamara averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 3.5 steals in two Orange victories last week.
In the Orange’s thrilling 87-82 win over Manhattan, McNamara led the team with a season-high 25 points, including 10-11 shooting from the foul line. He helped lead the Orange’s comeback from an 11-point second half deficit, scoring 10 points in the frame. In addition, he added nine assists and three steals while committing just one turnover. In the Orange’s 80-64 win over TCU, McNamara contributed with his second double-double of the year and the sixth of his career with 11 points and 10 rebounds. He moved into eighth place ahead of Dale Shackleford on SU’s all-time steals list. His 209 career steals are six behind Lawrence Moten (215).
For the year, McNamara is averaging 15.4 points, 6.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds per contest. He is also shooting 93 percent from the free throw line, ranking second in the BIG EAST. His 108 consecutive starts are first amongst active players in Division I. He currently ranks 13th on the Syracuse career points list (1,652), and needs 54 points to tie Rony Seikaly (1,716) for 12th all time.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday when it welcomes Colgate to the Carrier Dome for a 7:00 p.m. start.
