Duan Selected To AVCA All-Northeast Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior Kelly Duan was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Northeast Team, announced today. This is Duan’s second such honor, as she was also selected to the team last season.
Duan, a native of Baotou City, China, capped off her four-year Orange career with one of the best seasons by any student-athlete in SU volleyball history. She set the single-season record in kills with 537, besting Dana Fiume who compiled 536 in 1999. Her 4.26 kills per game average was just off the single-season record held by Fiume, who averaged 4.27 kills in 2000. Up until the Orange’s last match in the BIG EAST Championship against Louisville, Duan held the record at 4.29 kills per game.
Duan’s 1,217 attacks in 2005 is the third most in a single season, and she is just the third student-athlete to eclipse the 1,200 attacks mark in a season. Her 57 service aces this season is the fifth highest total in a season.
For her career, Duan finished fifth on the all-time kills list with 1,360, while her 3,373 career attacks ranks sixth on the all-time ledger. Duan totaled 175 career service aces with a 0.38 per game average, which both rank third all-time. Her 1,091 digs is sixth at SU in a career. Duan racked up 290 block assists in her four years, which puts her in sixth in that category, while her 325 total blocks is also sixth.
Along with two-consecutive selections to the AVCA All-Region Team, Duan was also a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST First Team for the second-straight year.
Duan, along with the rest of the selections from the eight regions, will be placed on another ballot to determine the AVCA All-America teams. There is a first, second, third, and an honorable mention team with 12 members per squad.
