A week after receiving one vote in both the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 for the first time in school history, the Orange softball team continued to earn national recognition with multiple votes in each poll.
Syracuse is tied with Arizona State and Mississippi State in the USA Today/NFCA poll with seven votes. The Orange garnered 10 votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings, tying with Iowa.
SU is 4-2 on the season after claiming the Sunshine State Tournament championship in Tallahassee, Fla. Syracuse lost its first two games of the event, but came back to defeat 15th-ranked Florida State and South Carolina twice. SU now owns two wins against top-15 teams, including third-ranked and two-time defending champion UCLA. Syracuse put five players on the all-tournament team and sophomore pitcher Courtney Mosch was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week.
Syracuse is the only BIG EAST team receiving recognition in either poll.
The Orange has this weekend off before resuming play at the George Mason Patriot Classic on March 5. SU will face Albany twice, Cornell and George Mason in the two-day event.
