FRESNO, Calif. - The Syracuse women's tennis team lost its third-straight match with a 5-2 loss against No. 43 Fresno State on Thursday at the Wathen Tennis Center.
The Orange was defeated at all three doubles positions for just the second time this season. Freshmen Victoria Vaynberg and Catherine Zawadzki lost, 8-3, to the 22nd-ranked doubles team of Lucia Sainz and Courtney Jantz at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, sophomore Katie Bramante and junior Wei-Ming Leong lost to Jacqui Haskett and Lucia Tallo, 8-3, while at No. 3, sophomores Carolina Huignard and Ashley Lipton lost, 8-5, to Katharina Winterhalter and Fadzai Masivazi.
The Orange was able to win two singles matches, one at the top of the order and the other at the bottom. Vaynberg improved her record to 11-3 this spring with a win at No. 1 singles against 71st-ranked Winterhalter, 6-1, 7-5.
Freshman Jessica Juricek won her first collegiate match against Margo Maraghi-Grcic, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 6 position.
The Orange returns home for two BIG EAST matches against Connecticut on Thursday, March 24 at 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 26 at 10:00 a.m. against West Virginia.
