SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse University head volleyball coach Jing Pu announced today that Brittany Kern signed intent to enroll forms and will compete for the Orange beginning in the 2005 season.
Kern, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., played four seasons of varsity volleyball for Roncalli High School as a middle hitter. She was a state all-star in 2003 and 2004 and a member of the Academic All-State Team in 2004. Roncalli won both county and sectional championships in 2003 and repeated as county champions in 2004 with a 26-7 record.
Kern also played club volleyball for the Circle City Volleyball Club in Indianapolis for four years, each year qualifying for the Junior Olympic Nationals. While playing for one of the clubs under-16 teams, the team won back-to-back national qualifiers, including 44 games without a loss. During that run, Kern was named Prep Volleyball’s player of the week.
Kern was also involved in several high school musical productions and participated in show choir, serving as dance captain her senior year.
SU finished the 2004 season with a 25-7 record and an 8-2 mark in BIG EAST competition, earning its first trip to the BIG EAST Championships since 1999.
