Joines Named To ESPN The Magazine District I Academic All-America Team

Syracuse University women’s lacrosse student-athlete Monica Joines (Whitehall, Md.) was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Second Team. This is the first time that Joines has received the honor.
Joines, a senior captain, helped lead the Orange to a 12-5 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Joines ranked second on the team this season in points with 51, while being the teams leading scorer with 43 goals. She was also third on the squad with eight assists.
Joines finished her career with 129 career goals to place her second on Syracuse’s all-time goals list, and her 156 career points ranks her third on the all-time points list. Joines was selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team, second-team All-American and first-team All-North Region.
Joines graduated with a degree in public relations and political science. Joines is a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, and a member of the 2004 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. She was one of 11 female student-athletes to receive a 2004-05 BIG EAST Conference/Aèropostale Scholar-Athlete Award.
She was joined on the all-district squad by Syracuse rower Anna Goodale.
