Women's Soccer loses season opener, 3-0

TEANECK, NJ- The SU women's soccer team couldn't overcome the offensive attack of Fairleigh Dickinson Friday afternoon, losing, 3-0.
FDU's Christine McCartney scored two goals and assisted on another. McCartney, who fired five shots on the day, scored the games first goal with less than three minutes remaining in the first half.
The second half began very similar as the first did, with both teams playing scoreless soccer until McCartney scored her second goal on the day just before the 78th-minute mark. FDU would add a second insurance goal when Tonya Hipsman broke away, down the right side, scoring in the 85th-minute.
Both goaltenders saw a great deal of action on the day as each team got off 13 shots. SU's Emily Kowalczyk made six saves on the day, while her counterpart, FDU's Kyla Clark, made seven saves in the shutout victory.
The Orange, 0-1-0, will next be in action Sunday at 1 p.m. as it hosts non-conference opponent Hartford at the SU Soccer Stadium.
