Volleyball Loses To Oral Roberts, 3-1, In New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Orange lost its first match in the Hilton Albuquerque Volleyball Classic this morning, 3-1 (24-30, 30-22, 30-27, 30-28), to Oral Roberts. Seniors Kelly Duan and Kristen Conway both registered 14 kills in the loss. SU (6-3) plays its second game of the day at 5:00 p.m. against Delaware State.
Senior setter Aila Dommestrup dished out 50 assists in the match. The Orange powered its way to a game one victory, hitting .375 with 16 kills on 32 attacks.
The Golden Eagles responded in game two with a 30-22 win. SU had 10 kills in the game but also had 10 errors.
In game three, both teams improved on their attacking as SU hit .410 in the game. ORU hit .326 and was able to pull away with a 30-27 win.
In the final game, both teams hit under .100, but it was ORU clinching the victory with a 30-28 win.
Sophomore Jen Malcom recorded seven total blocks in the match while sophomore Joscie Kaup tallied 15 digs and three service aces.
For the Golden Eagles (3-4), Kim Snow had a match-best 18 kills while Jacqueline Oliveria added 16. Setter Brittany Arnold posted 59 assists in the win.
SU takes on Delaware State at 5:00 p.m. tonight and finishes the tournament against New Mexico tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
