Niedwiecki, VanSickle Earn BIG EAST Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- SU freshmen Kim Niedzwiecki (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) and Sarah VanSickle (Darnestown, Md/Northwest) have been honored by the BIG EAST for their play in the Orange’s game at St. John’s this past week. Niedzwiecki has been named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, while VanSickle is the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.
Niedzwiecki scored her first career goal in the Orange’s 2-0 win over St John’s on Saturday. Her goal against the Red Storm would prove to be the game-winner. She has played in six of Syracuse’s seven games this season. She has three shots this season to go along with one goal for a shooting percentage of .333.
VanSickle had her first career assist in SU’s win over the Red Storm on Saturday. She assisted on Lauren Jentzen’s (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) breakaway goal to give the Orange a 2-0 lead. VanSickle was a key part of a Orange defense that earned its first shutout of the season. The SU defense has allowed 1.71 goals per game this season, holding its opponent to one goal or less four times.
Syracuse will next be in action on Wednesday when it travels to play Colgate at 7 p.m.
