
Volleyball Wins Season Opener, 3-1

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Syracuse University (1-0) senior Kelly Duan registered 20 kills, while classmate Kristin Conway posted 15 of her own in a 3-1 (30-26, 30-23, 23-30, 30-20) win against Maine (1-3) in the Orange's first match of the season at the Boston College Tournament. Senior setter Aila Dommestrup had 37 assists.
Dommestrup also chipped in on the defensive end with four total blocks and 12 digs, while sophomore libero Joscie Kaup led the team with 14 digs. Sophomore Cheryl Cobbina added nine kills and two solo blocks in the victory.
For the Black Bears, America East Conference finalists in 2004, Shannon Fotter and Kaili Jordan both had 12 kills, while Shelly Seipp added 37 assists. Justine Chabot had a team-high 14 digs.
The Orange is back in action tomorrow for a pair of matches. At 10:00 a.m., SU faces host Boston College, who lost its opener to defending national champion Stanford in three games. At 2:00 p.m., SU takes on Stanford to close out the Boston College Tournament.
