SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Orange will wrap up its streak of four straight road games when it travels to play Colgate, Wednesday night. SU comes in fresh off its victory over BIG EAST opponent St. John’s on Saturday. Wednesday’s game will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Van Doren Field in Hamilton, N.Y.
SU enters Wednesday’s game with a record of 2-5-0, 1-0-0 in the BIG EAST, after opening its conference season with a 2-0 win over St. John’s last Saturday. In that game, Kim Niedzwiecki (Manchester, N.H.) and Lauren Jentzen (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) each tallied goals to help lift the Orange to victory. Emily Kowalczyk (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) had one save in the contest earning her sixth career shutout. With the shutout, she took over sole possession of fourth place on the school’s all-time shutout leaders list.
On the season, Jentzen leads all SU goal scorers with two goals. Niedzweicki’s goal against St. John’s groups her with Jen Taormina (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), Molly McManus (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) and Kaitlin LaMothe (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip Regional), who all have one goal this season. Amanda Arcuri (New City, N.Y/Clarkstown) leads the team in assists with three, good enough for sixth in the BIG EAST.
Colgate comes into Wednesday’s game with a record of 4-3-0, 0-0-0 in the Patriot League, after losing to undefeated BYU, 2-0, on Saturday.
SU leads the all-time series with Colgate, 8-1. The only time the Raiders were able to beat the Orange was back in 1996. SU won last years meeting, 2-1, at the SU Soccer Stadium, making it eight straight victories over Colgate.
