The Syracuse men’s basketball team has played three times on this date in the Carrier Dome during the past 25 years. The Orange has a perfect 3-0 record in those games.
Most recently, the Syracuse hosted Boston College in 2003. Hakim Warrick, Carmelo Anthony and Gerry McNamara combined for 68 points as the Orange defeated the Eagles, 81-74. SU trailed by two, 58-56, with 9:48 remaining. Warrick scored the game’s next seven points, putting Syracuse in the lead for good. Warrick finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Anthony also posted a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds, and McNamara finished with 20 points.
Syracuse faced the Miami for the first time since the 1963-64 season when the Hurricanes visited the Dome in 1992. Dave Johnson scored a season-high 20 points to lead the Orange to a 73-57 victory.
In 1986, No. 4 Syracuse hosted Pittsburgh. SU never trailed in the first half and led by as many as 17. A late Pittsburgh run cut the Orange’s halftime lead to 13, 43-30. The Panthers twice pulled to within four points in the second half, but that was close as they could get. Wendell Alexis led SU with 21 points while Dwayne Washington finished with 10 assists, giving him 499 in his career.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
