PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman guard Jenny Eckhart (Libertyville, Ill.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, Jan. 30 after leading the Orange (9-11, 2-7) to its first two conference wins of the season. Eckhart averaged 18.0 points per game in victories at Seton Hall (Jan. 25) and Providence (Jan. 28).
It was the second time this year Eckhart has been honored by the conference. She was tabbed the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Dec. 5 after scoring a career-best 23 points at Canisius on Dec. 4.
Eckhart shot 50 percent (4-for-8) from 3-point range in the two wins and averaged 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game to go along with her robust scoring average. She tallied a game-high 17 points to lead SU past Seton Hall, 64-56, and was 6-of-11 from the field in the contest (54.5 percent). With the performance, she became the first Orange student-athlete since Raquel Nurse in 1994-95 to surpass 200 points in her rookie season.
In SU’s 77-76 overtime win at Providence, Eckhart finished with 19 points and played all 45 minutes in the game. She was 7-of-9 from the floor and 3-for-3 from 3-point land versus the Friars. Two of her three triples came in the final 1:18 of regulation, including the game-tying trifecta with eights seconds to play to force overtime.
Syracuse returns home on Tuesday, Jan. 31 when it hosts Notre Dame in 7:30 p.m. clash at the Carrier Dome. The game will be televised live in Syracuse on Time Warner Sports 26.
