Orange Competes at the ITA Northeast Regional

Hanover, N.H.- The Syracuse women’s tennis team sent six players to the ITA Northeast Regional, hosted by Dartmouth, this past weekend. The Orange had three players compete in the singles draw and two doubles teams see action.
Junior Victoria Vaynberg won two singles matches, advancing all the way to the round of 16. After a first round by Vaynberg, who was seeded 17th, came from down a set to beat Dominique Liquori (Fordham), 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. She then best 12 seed Milena Kachar (Columbia) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. On Sunday, October 23, Vaynberg lost to Beier Ko (Harvard), the fifth seed, 6-1, 6-0.
Junior Olga Votavova also had success in the singles draw. Votavova started out in the qualifying draw, winning two matches. She beat Kelley LoRusso (Connecticut), 6-1, 6-3, to open the tournament and then best Larissa Santos (Old Dominion), 6-2, 6-1. Votavova received a bye in the first round of the main draw and then defeated Christine Burek (Connecticut), 6-1, 6-4. In the Round of 32, Votavova lost to Lena Litvak (Harvard) in a close match, 7-5, 6-7 (6), 6-2.
In doubles action, Votavova teamed with sophomore Maria Vasilyeva to beat a team from Boston University, 8-6, before losing to Yale, 8-6. Seniors Carolina Huignard and Ashley Lipton won their first match in the doubles main draw, beating Providence, 8-4.
The Orange closes out its fall schedule this weekend at the Brown Classic
