SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse and the Carrier Dome will be home to the inaugural BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship in 2007. The conference recently announced Syracuse as the first host site for the three-game tournament.
“I think it is great," said Syracuse head coach Lisa Miller. "We had the final four a couple of years back. I thought that we did a great job hosting it. I think that Syracuse will do a great job of hosting the first BIG EAST Championship and I am just thrilled to have it here.”
Four teams will qualify for the tournament, which will take place over four days. The semifinal games will be held on Friday, April 27 and the championship game will follow on Sunday, April 29. The winner of the championship game will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The weekend will begin with an award banquet on Thursday, April 26.
Six Teams compete in the BIG EAST for women’s lacrosse. In addition to Syracuse, Connecticut, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Rutgers and associate member Loyola (Md.) will all compete for the 2007 crown. Georgetown won the 2006 regular season title and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Syracuse returns nine starters from the 2006 team, including All-American midfielder Gaddy Fortune. The Orange finished last season ranked 18th in the IWLCA coaches poll and 19th in the Inside Lacrosse media poll.
