Three Orange Lacrosse Stars Inducted into Hudson Valley Chapter of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Former Orange lacrosse players Ric Beardsley, Rob Kavovit and Freddie Opie were inducted into the Hudson Valley Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Nov. 25. Beardsley and Opie were honored as part of the group’s class of 2005 along with Loyola’s Matt Dwan and Massachusetts’ Bill Edell. Kavovit was a member of the 2006 class, joining Brian Kuczma (Johns Hopkins) and contributor Tom Sanders.
Beardsley was a four time All-America defenseman for the Orange from 1992-95, earning first-team honors his junior and senior years. He was a member of national title winning teams in 1993 and 1995. He attended Lakeland High before coming to Syracuse.
Kavovit posted record scoring outputs during his tenure at Syracuse. He is the ninth leading scorer in Syracuse lacrosse history with 246 points (125 goals, 121 assists). His 121 assists are seventh all-time in Syracuse lacrosse history. He was named an All-American in 1995, 1996 and 1997, earning second-team honors his senior season. Kavovit was a teammate of Beardsley’s on the 1995 NCAA Championship team. He attended Yorktown High School and graduated in 1993 with fellow inductee Brian Kuczma.
Opie was a letterwinner from 1984-1985. He helped the Orange to a pair of NCAA title games and contributed two goals during the 1985 season. Opie attended Croton Harmon High.
The trio joined former SU standouts Tim and Tom Nelson, Dom Finn, Rhett Cavanaugh and Roy Colsey as members of the chapter’s Hall of Fame.
