Sophomore defender Karrah Benson (Germantown, Md.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/COSIDA District I All-Academic second team. Benson was selected by a vote of district sports information directors on Thursday. She is the first Orange soccer player to be honored since 2004 when Sarah Elnicky received first team recognition.
Benson, a pre-med major, started all 19 games for the Orange on defense. She anchored a defense that recorded six shutouts and held its opponents to one goal or less 10 times. As a freshman, Benson was a BIG EAST Academic All-Star and a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.
The Orange finished the season 4-12-3 and 3-7-1 in the BIG EAST. Syracuse won three of its final six games and was one point shy of a second-consecutive trip to the BIG EAST Tournament.
