SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman women’s basketball player Nicole Michael will be featured as the Scholar Athlete of the Week on this week’s edition of “Inside the BIG EAST.” The show airs on Madison Square Garden network (MSG) on Friday at 6 p.m. and again on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. In addition, ESPNU will televise the show at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Michael showed no signs of slowing down after being named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Nov. 27. She recorded a team-high 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists in Syracuse’s 66-49 victory at Colgate on Nov. 29. Michael is the first freshman to lead the team in scoring in four-consecutive games since Julie McBride accomplished the feat during the 2000-01 season. Beth Record was the last player to lead the Orange in scoring in five-straight games. She led SU in scoring in seven-consecutive games during the 1999-2000 season. Michael’s five assists and three steals against the Raiders were both career bests. She has scored in double figures in five of the Orange’s six games, including the last four. The freshman is leading the team in points (17.3) and rebounds (8.3).
Michael and the rest of the Orange currently owns a record of 2-4 and will resume play on Saturday in the Brown Classic. Syracuse will face Rhode Island at 3 p.m.
