
Nichols Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior forward Demetris Nichols, who tied his career-best effort with 28 points against Baylor on Saturday, has been named BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week. His the first Syracuse player recognized with the honor this season. Nichols had earned BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll selection twice this winter.
He converted 12-of-18 from the field, including a 4-of-6 effort on three-pointers, in Syracuse's win against Baylor. Nichols added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
His effort versus the Bears capped a three-game run that saw Nichols tally 26, 28 and 28 points. He ranks second in scoring average (18.5), third in three-point average (2.91), tied for third in three-point shooting percentage (.500), eighth in free-throw percentage (.897) and 15th in average minutes played (31.4) and steals (1.82).
Nichols has 885 career points in 99 contests at Syracuse. His 137 three-point baskets rank 10th overall, just two behind Adrian Autry and Jason Hart, at the school.
The most recent Syracuse performer to earn BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week was Gerry McNamara, who was named on January 16, 2006.
