Duan Earns BIG EAST/Áeropostale Female Scholar-Athlete Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Orange volleyball senior Kelly Duan was named a recipient of the 2005-06 BIG EAST/Áeropostale Female Scholar-Athlete Award, announced today by the conference office. Duan, along with the other honorees, will be given $2,000 toward graduate studies.
Duan, majoring in finance and accounting, continues to add on to the awards she has already received this year. She was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team in District 1. On the court, Duan was an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and All-Northeast Region selection. She was also a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team honoree, her second year in a row accomplishing all of those athletic feats.
At the annual volleyball banquet held last week, Duan was picked as the team’s Most Valuable Player. In 2005, she broke the single-season school record for kills with 537. Her 1,217 attacks last season was the third-most in a single season. Duan also accumulated 57 service aces, which is fifth in a single season.
On the all-time ledgers, she sits in sixth in kills with 1,360. Her 3,373 career attacks also ranks sixth. She finished her Orange career third in services aces (175) and service aces per game (.38). Defensively, her 1,091 digs is the sixth most for a student-athlete in a career. Duan also ranks sixth in career block assists (290) and total blocks (325).
Duan is a four-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and has been named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star twice.
