The Syracuse men’s basketball team has hosted four games in the Carrier Dome on this date during the past 25 years. The Orange has a 3-1 record in those contests.
Most recently, Syracuse defeated Notre Dame, 71-65. SU held a three-point advantage at the half-way point and led by as many as 17 in the second half. The Fighting Irish mounted a comeback in the final minute, but the Orange hit 5-of-8 free throws to secure the victory. Etan Thomas led SU with 22 points.
In 1997, Syracuse defeated Connecticut, 71-66 in overtime. A three-point basket by Richard Hamilton gave UConn a 57-55 lead with 44 seconds left in regulation. Jason Cipolla’s five-footer from the lane with 23.9 seconds remaining tied the score at 57-57 and forced the extra period. After the two teams traded baskets, Otis Hill gave the Orange the lead for good with a layup and two free throws. Cipolla finished with 27 points, while Todd Burgan recorded a double-double.
Stephen Thompson scored 21 points to lead Syracuse to an 82-68 win against St. John’s on this date in 1988.
SU’s only loss on this date was a 66-65 defeat at the hand of Notre Dame in 1990. Derrick Coleman scored 16 to lead the Orange.
In addition, the Dome was the site of the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships on this date in 1996, 2001 and 2002.

More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
In the first 25 years of the Dome, more than 1,740 events were staged, including collegiate, professional and high school athletics events, University commencement, concerts, a circus, and community events. These activities are chronicled in the more than 100 photographs that are currently in the concourse of the Dome. Fans who attend events in the Dome can re-live the memories with these photos.
