SU’s matches this weekend will be the first duals of the season and first since playing in the BIG EAST Tournament championship match last April. The Orange enjoyed a great deal of success during its fall portion of the season where it took part in five tournaments. SU opened the season by winning four of the six brackets at the Yale Invitational. Also highlighting SU’s fall season was senior Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia) who became the 24th member of the Syracuse “Century Club” as she won her 100th career match at the Deacon Classic Oct. 1-2. She currently stands at 107 career victories.
Leong leads the Orange in wins this season with 11, while Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) is close behind with 10. In doubles play, SU was led by the sophomore duo of Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) and Catherine Zawadzki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who played to a 10-3 record and earned an East Region ranking of 11 in the first Fila Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
Friday’s match will be the first dual of the season for Brown, however Dartmouth will enter Sunday’s match with a pair of duals under its belt after opening the season with a 4-3 win against Army before losing to #73 Boston College, 7-0, on Jan. 28.
The Orange played both Brown and Dartmouth last season. SU defeated Brown 5-2, while Dartmouth topped the Orange 6-1.
