HANOVER, N.H.- The Syracuse women’s tennis team lost its second of two weekend road matches on Sunday, losing to Dartmouth, 5-2. Sophomore Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) and junior Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) each won singles matches for the Orange.
HANOVER, N.H.- The Syracuse women’s tennis team lost its second of two weekend road matches on Sunday, losing to Dartmouth, 5-2. Sophomore Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) and junior Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) each won singles matches for the Orange.
Vaynberg won a pair of tightly contested sets against Lindsay Winingham to earn a straight sets victory, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Catherine Zawadzki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the first set in her match at number two, 7-5, before losing the next two 6-2, 6-1.
At number three, freshman Maria Vasilyeva (St. Petersburg, Russia) lost, 6-3, 6-0. Junior Ashley Lipton (Saratoga, Calif.) met Dartmouth’s Kerry Snow in what would be the duals most tightly contested match as Snow won the first set in a tiebreaker, winning 9-7 in the tiebreak. Lipton cruised to a 6-1 victory in the second, while Snow came back to win the third, 6-4.
Bramante earned her first dual-match victory of the season at number five singles, winning 6-2, 6-2. At number six, sophomore Zeljka Juricek (Zagreb, Croatia) lost, 6-2, 6-3.
SU lost the doubles point after dropping two the three matches. Bramante and senior Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia) won at number two doubles, 8-5.
SU is now 0-2 on the season and will next be in action on Friday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. as it hosts Buffalo and the Drumlins Tennis Club.
