SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse women’s tennis team will host its home opener on Friday night against Buffalo. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Drumlins Tennis Club. SU (0-2) will be looking for its first win of the season, while Buffalo (3-0) is riding a three-match win streak to start the season.

SU (0-2) will be looking for its first win of the season, while Buffalo (3-0) is riding a three-match win streak to start the season.
SU, who returns all six starters from a squad that finished second in the BIG EAST in 2005, is coming off a pair of 5-2 losses at Brown and Dartmouth last weekend. Highlighting the start to the SU spring season was sophomore Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) who won pair of matches at number one singles without dropping a set. SU was two-for-two at number five singles last weekend as well with sophomore Zeljka Juricek (Zagreb, Croatia) winning in three sets against Brown before junior Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) earned a routine victory at flight five against Dartmouth.
In doubles play, SU’s number two pairing of Bramante and senior Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia) won a pair of matches to start the season, however SU did lose the doubles point in each of its first two duals.
On the season, Leong, who became the 24th member of the SU “Century Club” during the fall portion of the season, shares the team lead in singles wins this season with Bramante at 11.
Vaynberg and doubles partner sophomore Catherine Zawadzki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lead the team in doubles play this season with a 10-4 record. The duo is the 11th ranked team in the East Region according to the latest Fila Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
Buffalo will look earn its fourth straight victory on Friday. The Bulls are led this season by Andrea Navaceanu who ranks 28th in the East Region.
Friday’s match will be the first ever meeting between SU and Buffalo.
