BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas) finished in second place in the shot put with an NCAA Provisional toss of 15.38m in the first day of the ECAC Championship on March 4 at the Reggie Lewis Track. Hernandez has accounted for all eight of the women’s points so far in the event. Junior Aulton Kohn (Beaufort, S.C.) qualified for the 55m Dash final and the 200m Dash final that will be held at tomorrow in the IC4A Championship at Boston University. The women are in 10th place after the first day while the men did not score any points in the first day of action.
Hernandez finished behind Northeastern’s Zara Northover who won the shot put with a mark of 15.95m. Kohn had the top time in the 55m, clocking in a 6.36 seconds. It was .03 faster than anyone else in the field. He also finished ninth in the preliminaries of the 200m with a time of 21.57.
Other performers at the ECAC Championship include senior Christen Tucker (Oakland, Calif.), who advanced to the finals of the 60m Dash. In the prelims, she clocked in at 7.69 seconds and in the semifinals she finished with a time of 7.66 seconds. Freshman Nana Sang-Bender (Syracuse, N.Y.) qualified for the finals in the mile with a time of 4:57.42 seconds. Sophomore Kathleen Sanborn (Rutland, Vt.) advanced to the finals of the 1000m with a time of 2:54.16 seconds. BIG EAST high jump champion Jillian Drouin (Corunna, Ontario) finished 10th in that event at 1.65m. Junior Sheron Mark (Port of Spain, Trinidad) placed 11th in the long jump with a leap of 5.46m. In the pentathlon, sophomore Kaitlin Lambracht (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) placed 12th with 3381 points.
For the men at the IC4A Championship, sophomore Kyle Heath (Farmington, N.Y.) finished 10th in the 3000m with a time of 8:21.62 seconds. In the preliminaries of the 55m Hurdles, sophomore Marcus Vaughn (North Attleboro, Mass.) was three slots away from qualifying for the finals with a time of 7.84 seconds. Junior Jake Palas (Asheville, N.C.) finished 10th in the heptathlon with 2430 points.
Both championships continue tomorrow, March 5, at their respective locations in Boston.
