SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Senior guard Gerry McNamara of the SU men’s basketball team has been named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District II team. District II is comprised of those schools located in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Washington, D.C. McNamara is averaging 16.4 points and a career-best 5.7 assists per game this season.
McNamara is the sixth player in school history to eclipse the 2,000-point milestone with 2,032 career points scored. He is the all-time BIG EAST leader in three-point field goals with 183 and is the all-time leader at SU in career three pointers made (384) and attempted (1,091).
Joining McNamara on the All-District II team is District II Player of the Year Quincy Douby (Rutgers), Steve Burtt (Iona), Keydren Clark (St. Peter’s), Jeff Green (Georgetown), Jared Jordan (Marist) Pops Mensah-Bonsu (George Washington), Harding Nana (Delaware), J.R. Pinnock (George Washington) and Kelly Whitney (Seton Hall).
SU finished the regular season 19-11 overall and earned the eighth seed at the BIG EAST Tournament. McNamara and the Orange will begin play in the conference tournament on Wednesday at 12 p.m. when they take on Cincinnati.
