Hernandez Wins Discus Throw At 112th Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Senior Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas) won the discus throw and finished fifth in the hammer at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field this weekend. Sophomore Jillian Drouin (Corunna, Ontario) and senior Tatiana Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a pair of second-place finishes for the Orange at the 112th running of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field. A record crowd of 39,994 watched the meet on Friday.
Hernandez won the discus with a throw of 54.58m and recorded a mark of 59.82 in the hammer throw. Drouin finished second in the high jump by clearing 1.71m and Warren earned second in the eastern section of the triple jump with a leap of 12.28m.
Junior Sheron Mark (Diego Martin, Trinidad) finished fourth in two events at the Relays. In the long jump, she recorded a jump of 5.81m and then in the college portion of the triple jump, she finished with a mark of 12.75m.
Junior Dan Pribula (Strongsville, Ohio) placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 16.37m. Senior Chris Muldoon (Robesonia, Pa.) clocked in at 14:29.29 in the 5000m to place seventh and senior Chris Telesford (Brooklyn, N.Y.) leaped to ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.19m.
More Orange are in action on Sunday, April 30, when SU travels to nearby Ithaca to compete in the Big Red Invitational hosted by Cornell.
