SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Junior Ashley Lipton (Saratoga, Calif.) will be chasing history on Friday when the Orange (12-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) travels to take on Connecticut (4-9, 1-2 BIG EAST). A singles win for Lipton against the Huskies would make her the school record holder for the most consecutive singles victories. Following the Connecticut match, SU will travel to play its final regular season road dual of the season at Seton Hall (4-7, 2-3 BIG EAST) on Saturday. First serves for both matches are set for 1 p.m.

The Orange will look to its exceptional doubles line-up to help set the tone this weekend as the team has won the doubles point in 14 of its last 15 duals. Leading the way has been the team’s number one doubles pairing of sophomores Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) and Catherine Zawadzki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who have played to a 23-6 record this season. SU is 40-9 overall this season in doubles play and has swept the doubles 11 times.
In addition to Lipton’s stellar 21 singles wins this season, Vaynberg has been a standout performer as well for the Orange. Vaynberg has played to a 10-4 record at number one singles this season and is coming off a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Marquette after nearly pulling off an SU upset against #73 DePaul last weekend.
Junior Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) and freshman Maria Vasilyeva (St. Petersburg, Russia) are tied for second on the team in singles wins with 18. Vasilyeva has won seven of her last nine matches and has been virtually a lock at number four singles this season, going 9-3 at that position.
UConn enters Friday’s match fresh off a tough 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh on April 1. The Huskies earned singles victories at flights four, five and six against the Panthers. The Huskies are led by Ashley Petruzzi who is 11-9 this season.
Seton Hall comes into this weekend looking to rebound from its 5-2 loss at Marquette on April 1. The Pirates won the doubles point against Marquette and then got a win at number six singles from Ebru Burduroglu. Danielle Viola leads the team in singles wins this season with a record of 13-7.
SU leads the all-time series with both Connecticut (4-0) and Seton Hall (12-4). The Orange beat both teams last season. Two wins this weekend would tie the Orange for the third highest win total in school history.
