The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team has played twice in the Carrier Dome on this date, both times in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Orange was victorious in both contests.
In 1984, Syracuse defeated Army, 11-9, in front of 9,841 fans in the national semifinals. The win gave SU the chance to defend its 1983 national championship against John Hopkins. Tim Nelson scored four goals and had two assists, while Tom Korrie had three goals and an assist to lead the Orange.
One year later, Syracuse again played in the national semifinals in the Dome, this time against North Carolina. The Orange scored six straight goals to turn a 13-8 deficit into a one-goal win, with Emmett Printup scoring the clincher in overtime as the Orange beat the Tar Heels, 14-13. Tim Nelson led the SU attack with three goals and three assists, while Tom Nims anchored the defense, recording 21 saves.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
