SYRACUSE, N.Y. – This year’s Orange women’s basketball recruiting class was ranked 46th in the country by the All-Star Girls Report, one of the nation’s leading women’s basketball recruiting services, on May 25. SU’s incoming crop of players is made up of junior college All-American Fantasia Goodwin (Hastings, N.Y.) and high school standout Nicole Michael (Queens, N.Y.).
Goodwin was ranked the ninth-best junior college recruit in America by the publication after leading Monroe College in the Bronx to a 36-0 record and the Division III junior college national championship. She led the nation in scoring in back-to-back seasons and holds the Division III junior college record for career points (1,681).
The All-Star Girls Report rated Michael No. 50 nationally in the Class of 2006. She averaged 25.3 points and 13.2 boards per game as a senior at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass. Michael helped Notre Dame to a 25-2 overall mark and an appearance in the NACA national title game in 2005-06.
The Orange was one of 11 BIG EAST schools ranked in the top 50. The list included conference members Rutgers (No. 4), Connecticut (No.8), West Virginia (No. 13), Notre Dame (No. 21), Louisville (No. 26), Pittsburgh (No. 28), Cincinnati (No. 35), USF (No. 41), Syracuse (No. 46), Marquette (No. 48) and Villanova (No. 50).
Georgetown, DePaul, St. John’s and Seton Hall received honorable mention from the publication. Baylor, the 2005 national champion, topped the list.
The rankings were compiled by All-Star Girls Report recruiting analyst Bret McCormick following the completion of the late-signing period.
