Morales Named to Final BIG EAST Softball Honor Roll of 2006

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – SU senior Cassie Morales (Whittier, Calif.) was selected to the last five-player BIG EAST Softball Honor Roll of 2006 on Monday, May 8. It was the second time she has been named to the honor roll this season.
Morales hit .667 (4-6) in the Orange’s doubleheader sweep of Buffalo in its regular-season finale on May 3 and also led SU with four runs scored and four runs batted in against the Bulls. Morales homered in each game to increase her career home run total to 25, passing Tanya Rose for the second on SU’s all-time list. She has 42 RBI in 2006, which is second on the Orange’s single-season chart.
Morales went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI in each contest. She slugged 1.833 in the doubleheader and recorded an on-base percentage of .714. Three of her four hits in the twin bill went for extra bases. In addition to the two home runs, she also hit an RBI double in the nightcap.
Syracuse (36-20, 15-7) earned the fourth seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship and it will play fifth-seeded DePaul in the quarterfinal round of the tournament on Thursday, May 11 at the Belleville Softball Complex in South Bend, Ind.
