Cross Country/Track & Field Adds 11 More for Next Season

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Coach Chris Fox and the Syracuse University cross country and track & field program announced 11 more scholastic standouts have signed on to compete for the Orange next season. The 11 athletes with join November signees Curtis Bixler (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), Jay Koloseus (Guilford, Conn.), Brad Miller (Lancaster, Pa.) Jeff Scull (Jordan Station, Ontario) and Stefanie Slekis (Monclair, Va.) in making up this year’s class.
Jenna Bieri (Davenport, Iowa) attended Central High School. She was a four-time all-state choice in track and cross country. She won nine conference titles and was the state runner-up in the 3,000-meter run in 2004 and 2006. Bieri also turned in a second-place finish at the 2006 Drake Relays. Her personal bests are 10:00.31 in the 3,000 meters, 4:40.41 in the 1,500 meters and 2:17.99 in the 800 meters.
Katherine Bower hails from Pittsford, N.Y. where she competed for Pittsford Mendon High School. Bower was the 2005 Section V Class A Cross Country champion and earned second-team all-state honors. She also qualified for the indoor state championship in the 3,000-meter run. Bower’s bests include a time of 10:40.84 in the indoor 3,000 meters and a 10:43.46 mark in the outdoor 3,000 meters.
Dan Busby (New Paltz, N.Y.) was the 2004 New York State Class B Cross Country champion and claimed the 2006 New York State Division II title in the 3,200 meters. He was a two-time all-state selection at New Paltz High School and turned in personal bests of 9:11.2 in the 3,200 meters and 4:13.3 in the 1,600-meter run.
Lisa Giacometti of Dallas, Pa. earned a total of seven all-state nods (three in cross country, four in track & field) at Dallas High School. In 2005, she won the AA District II Cross Country title and the conference cross country championship. Giacometti also shined during the outdoor season, winning the District II championships in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters. She was also a member of the championship-winning 4x800m relay team. In all, Giacometti claimed eight individual District II titles in her high school career. Her personal bests include a time of 5:14.58 in the 1,600 meters and a mark of 11:00.34 in the 3,200-meter run.
Lorraine Hill (Chambersburg, Pa.) attended Chambersburg High School where she won the 2006 PIAA Class AAAA state javelin championship. Hill also posted a second-place finish in the javelin at the Penn Relays and finished third in the event at the NIKE Outdoor Nationals. Her personal best in the javelin is 157’4.
Maegan Krifchin (Bellmore, N.Y.) was a six-time all-state pick in cross country and track at John F. Kennedy High School. She was a 2005-06 National Scholastic Indoor All-American, placing fifth in the 800 meters. Krifchin holds the Nassau County indoor record in the 800 and also posted two runner-up finishes in the New York State Cross Country Championship. She turned in a second-place finish in the 800 meters at the New York State Outdoor Federation Championship and took third in the 1,500-meter run at the 2005-06 New York State Indoor Championship. Krifchin’s indoor personal bests are: 1:35.9 (600 meters), 2:10.10 (800 meters) and 3:00.37 (1,000 meters). Her best outdoor times are: 2:10.69 (800 meters), 4:59.86 (mile) and 17:52.0 (5k).
Lynne Mundy was a three-time, first-team all-state choice in cross country at Cornwall High School in New Windsor, N.Y. In 2004 and 2005 she won state cross country medals, placing third in both years. Mundy earned a third state cross country medal with a sixth-placing showing in 2003. She was a three-time federation medalist and won the 2005 Section VIIII Sportsmanship Award for cross country and the 2005 Section VIIII Officials’ Sportsmanship Award in outdoor track. Her top times include a mark of 9:58.6 in the 3,000 meters, a 7:08.3 mark in the 2,000-meter steeple chase and time of 10:50.75 in the two mile.
Uhunoma Osazuwa (Las Vegas, Nev.) placed fourth in the 200-meter dash and the high jump at the 2006 Nevada State Championship. His personal bests in include a time of 25.14 in the 200, a mark of 5’5 in the high jump and 17’3 in the long jump. He attended Clark High School.
Carly Pavlick of Canton, Ohio attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School. She was the 2005 state runner-up in the high jump. Her personal best in the event is 5’5.
Monica Ridgeway (Liverpool, N.Y.) won the 2006 indoor and outdoor state championships in the shot put. She also claimed the 2006 Section III shot and discus championships while attending Liverpool High School. Ridgeway’s personal bests are 43’3 in the shot put and 133’3 in the discus.
Deanna Schmitt was a five-time all-state honoree in track and won the 2005 Division IV cross country title. She was a member of the 2002 New York State cross country championship team and participated in the 2006 Millrose Games as a member of the 4x400 relay squad. Schmitt also ran the anchor leg for the 2006 Indoor Intersectional state and federation championship relay teams. Her top times are 2:14.97 in the outdoor 800-meter run, 4:46.08 in the outdoor mile and 5:10.28 in the indoor mile.
