
Women's Soccer Kicks Off 2006 Campaign In Virginia

The Orange women's soccer team opens its 2006 season, the 11th in the programs history, with a pair of games in the state of Virginia this weekend. This Friday, the Orange visits eighth-ranked Virginia in the season-opener for both teams. The Cavaliers are coming off an 18-6-1 season, during which they advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Eight starters return from that team, including junior midfielder Becky Sauerbrunn, who was named to the 2006 Hermann Award Preseason Watch List. On Sunday, the Orange head southeast to take on William & Mary at 12:30 p.m. The game pits two of the most successfull Division I coaches against one another. Syracuse head coach Pat Farmer is currently 10th on the all-time Division I wins list (252) and William & Mary head coach John Daly is right ahead of him in a tie for eighth (262).
The Orange went 4-12-4 last season and advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2000. Syracuse is 5-3-2 all-time in season-openers. The Orange will open tis 2006 home schedule against BIG EAST foe St. John's on Friday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m.
